To be honest, I don't know what is causing the problem and without a logfile or something like that I can't really say what could be causing the problem.

One thing you might want to do is download the plugin from the SE website of your country and not take the global one, there might be a difference in there though I doubt it.

Otherwise I'd suggest calling / mailing the SonyEricsson helpdesk, they're usually quite friendly and helpful.

That, my friend, is seriously strange.
I've tested their plug-in on 3 different Mac's with 2 different P990i bought in the Netherlands and they work as expected.
I have no clue what could be causing your issue.
Do you happen to have a logfile which could tell us something as to why it fails?

I have the latest versions of all firmware and software available, have tried everything but still no luck! The problem is exacly as described by benjamin (5). My P990i is NOT branded and as I said, updated with the latest firmware from SEUS. Energysaving off and ALL OTHER INSTRUCTIONS have been followed and tested. I have done this with all upgrades of firmware along the line with both OS X Tiger and Leopard.

The fact that you can use it with different SIM-cards doesn't mean it is not branded.
Each SE phone is branded depending on the country or region it is going to be sold. My phone wasn't provider branded but it was Europe/The Netherlands branded by SE and depending on the branding you might need to wait for a different firmware release or update.
By now all the P990i should be syncing like a charm with Tiger, don't know about Leopard but I doubt that will make any difference.

My P990i doesn't seem to be a branded phone, since it's possible to use a SIM-card from a different operator.
When i try to syncronize, I see this symbol besides the bluetooh-logo which means the phone is connected to another device. But shortly before i get the error message in iSync, one bracket dissapears and i only see this < which means bluetooth is on but isn't connected to any device. In two cases I even got an error message on the phone which said that the application !Sync ML Sync Agent has quit.
So it might be a bluetooth issue! On Windows I only used the USB-calbe, but iSync doesen't support USB-connection to SE-phones.

I'm hearing a lot of sounds from people all over having trouble with the iSync plugin and I know from experience the SE helpdesk is absolutely useless.
Unfortunately I have no clue what is causing the problem.
I know that for it to work the Organiser needs to be at least version R6D23 but since you seem to have an even higher version that shouldn't be an issue.
The only thing that concerns me is your CDA seeing as that is identical to your Organiser, it doesn't feel quite right.

I do have a question for you though, is it a branded phone, like a Vodafone or T-Mobile or Orange or whatever as that can very well be the source of the problem.

Just updated my P990i yesterday via Sonyericsson Update Service (windows).
Since the update is coming directly form sonyericsson, it must be the newest one available, i reckon. But the Sync with iSync still doesn't work. Not with Leopard, neither with Tiger (SE iSync plug-in installed).
I know you're not giving technical support, it still would be cool if you had another hint for me. I've been trying to sync the phone with my mac for a long time, Apple doesn't really push the development of iSync that hard anymore, It really works neatly on Windows!

my versions on the phone are as following (i don't really see if the phone version is new or older on mine) :
Telefon: CXC 162037 R9GA001
Bluetooth: CXC 162058 R5A01
Organiser: CSC 162036 R6E28

The problem in this case is that you probably have an O2 branded phone, which means that once the firmware gets release it takes another month or so in order for O2 to produce a branded version, just be patient.
