The freezing cat

It’s a month since Apple release Leopard into the wild and the first update bringing leopard to 10.5.1 release a while back. I was very happy with Leopard except for one thing, the keyboard freezing issues. I, like many of the Intel Mac users have experienced keyboard and trackpad software failures on our laptops. Strangely enough, though this seems random for most people I could pinpoint it to a specific action, basically, waking up from standby or deep sleep triggered it here. So yesterday looking through my logs I noticed quite a few other things were wrong too, ntpd was tripping like hell and even though there weren’t any active network connections trying to poll time.euro.apple.com every minute for an hour long and then just suddenly decided it was bored and stopped altogether. The logs detailing the reboot cycles were quite disturbing too and even Disk Utilities Repair Permissions told me it couldn’t fix everything. Slightly baffled and quite worried I gave my MacBook Pro the thumbs up yesterday evening and reinstalled it.

Thing is, I want to know what is causing that freezing issue and if it will come back. The idea is I’m going to run my laptop a few days without extra software and if that works then start installing an application at the time and see if any of those triggered the bug.
