My MacBook Pro is a revision A MBP, manufactured somewhere in the beginning of February 2006 and always had the heating issue though Apple Support pretended not to know or be able to do anything about it. Since I didn’t purchase Apple Care (seriously expensive…) and hence my warranty was long gone I decided today to open up my MBP and see what was causing the issue. Thanks to the iFixit Logic Board Replacement Guide I was able to gain access to the deep parts of my MBP which revealed the truth I was afraid of. My MBP had the (back then) well known cooling paste issue where an inferior cooling paste was largely over-applied on the CPU, northbridge and the graphic processor. After removing the cooling paste (which came of in little blocks of junk) and giving the elements a thorough cleaning with cooling paste remover and the works and vacuuming the rest of my Macbook Pro I reapplied some decent Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste and put my MacBook Pro together. Now my laptop seems to be much cooler and much more capable of getting rid of the extensive heat which I’m very glad about.
