I generally don’t do newsgroups, I’m more of an IRC guy and I already spend too much valuable time there reading completely random conversations.
Today though I need a newsgroup client to (out of all things) read and post in the microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax group because XP SP3 just killed our automated printer deploy.
So I did some Google’ing and came across an old friend, Panic’s Unison. But, I just don’t like it anymore. It’s UI is way behind Leopard style and it isn’t being actively developed anymore and hence lacking features.
So I did some more Google’ing and came across a few other clients but I got stuck on Nemo. Nemo is a very nice OSX Tiger app for newsgroups. Though the download links are completely broken I managed to find one and instantly their appcast told me there was a newer version (in beta) and if I wanted to update.
Hell yeah, but oh wait, crash, error downloading file. So I dug a bit deeper and finally got hold of the appcast xml feed and the current download location.
The program is now called NemoX spotting a nice Leopardy look and can be found here. Now it’s kinda like in a semi-private beta so I really shouldn’t be telling you about it but I figured someone could use the info.
One small downside, Nemo isn’t free, it sells at 14,95$ which is still 10$ less than Panic’s Unison but since NemoX (Nemo’s successor) is hosted at Google Projects and hence the code is publicly available it more or less seems to indicate it will be going opensource, though that’s only a guess.
Never mind, just tried to co the repository, all you get is an empty folder…
