Irssi: nickcolor.pl

I use nickcolor.pl in irssi like many other people but it is one of the most crappy plugins ever when it comes to user output, since it gives none except for when it errors.

After pissing me off a few times today I ran through the source, indexed the commands and added some useful output here and there. I have submitted my changes to the original authors but just in case, here is my modified nickcolor.pl.

Thanks for the improved version of that nickcolor script :)

Hey, I realize that this is a really old posting, but could you please add instructions on how to change the nick colors manually (in case the script is using the same color for several people that you’d like to distinguish anyway)?

    Sure…

    • “/color preview” gives a list of available colors
    • “/color list” gives a list of currently hand-associated nicks with colors
    • “/color set nickname color-code” associates someone’s nick with a color where colorcode should be a number as provided by /color preview
    • “/color clear nick” undoes the color association for that nick
    • “/color save” saves your color-settings so that they get loaded when irssi starts

actually, after some happy usage, i must admit i never figured the following:
the script seems to assign random colors to “new” nicks that aren’t specified on the color list. which, of course, leads to confusion when it reaches for a color already specified for someone else on the channel, especially when it’s my highlight color.
    is it just me? ;)
